Buttock Implants
Buttock implant surgery has become more popular for persons, both male and female, who have a flat butt and want to have a more muscular and or shapely posterior. Patients taking protease inhibitor medications also tend to present for this procedure as these medications have a tendency to flatten out the buttocks due to loss of fat around the gluteus maximus. This procedure that has long been commonly accepted in South America is now becoming increasingly sought after in countries such as the United States and Australia. Dr Hodgkinson is an expert at body implant surgery including buttock implants and has been performing this operation for over 20 years.
Buttock implants are silicone implants both gel and firm. They can also be standard implants or customized depending upon the individual’s shape and result that they want to achieve. The desired look the patient wants to achieve needs to be fully discussed as this will affect not only the choice of implant but the placement of the implant as well. Quite frequently it is Asian women or aging athletic men who are concerned about their flat butt.
The procedure is carried out by inserting the implant under the gluteus maximus muscle or the muscle fascia with the patient in the prone position under a light general aneasthesia as an outpatient. Fat injection for gluteal augmentation is unpredictable in shape and absorption and needs to be repeated and therefore is less desirable for a patient seeking a uniform aesthetic appearance with longevity.
Dr. Hodgkinson is impressed by the newer La Pena technique with natural projection and feel.
