Pectoral Implants
Pectoral implants are solid silicone implants which come in standard shapes and sizes or can be customized to suit a particular need. These implants are used to augment and give shape to the chest where there is a deficiency or contour irregularity of the pectoralis muscles.
Dr. Hodgkinson is an expert in body implant surgery and chest wall contouring in particular. He notes that there are generally two types of patients who present for pectoral muscle enhancement and those are men who genetically may not have the propensity to develop a muscular physique puny males and men with chest wall deformities such as Polands Syndrome or Pectus Excavatum. For men with chest wall deformities, the pectoral implants are usually custom made by creating a plaster mold of the deficiency known as a moulage and then sending this off for manufacture of an implant made specifically to camouflage the defect. It takes about six weeks to manufacture the implants after which the surgery can be carried out as a day patient under a light general anaesthesia. This leads to a very high rate of satisfaction for the patient who has generally been very self-conscious of such a defect since an early age especially for those living in a beach culture where normal socializing includes exposing ones chest.
